The Solitude of Rivers

Price Basis: Inquiry estimate $48 per bound volume • Limited edition of 400

A contemplative novel set along the upper Mississippi waterways, published in a definitive Smyth-sewn clothbound format with archival unbleached Munken Pure paper.

Every copy in this limited edition of 400 numbered copies is bound by hand in Chicago using natural dark indigo Dutch linen cloth. The front cover carries a deep blind deboss struck into the cloth without metallic ink or foil, creating a subtle shadow line across the lettering.

The text block opens completely flat across a tabletop without pressure on the joints, preserving the paper spine for generations of continuous reading.

Appraise.

Materials chosen for physical longevity, tactile comfort, and neutral archival stability.

We specifically avoided modern synthetic book wraps. Commercial books wrapped in paper dustjackets suffer tearing along the head and foot within months of shelving. By casing the book directly in heavy-weight, starched Dutch linen cloth, the book functions as its own preservation box.

The interior typography is set in 10.5/15 pt Monotype Baskerville with proportional old-style numerals, printed with vegetable-based dense black pigment ink. It resists show-through and ink bleeding even under direct sunlight.
