Unlike digital offset printing where toner rests as a thin chemical film on the surface, letterpress relief printing bites directly into dampened cotton fibres. When held to a raking window light, each glyph casts a hairline shadow along its shoulder.
The folio measures 245 by 330 millimetres (9.6 by 13.0 inches). It comprises forty loose nested four-page signatures secured inside an unsewn portfolio wrapper of handmade St. Armand charcoal card, allowing individual plates to be removed, framed, or studied under a glass loupe without straining a spine.

Because Somerset paper contains no synthetic brighteners, its tone is a natural, unbleached cream rather than stark modern white. The carbon black inks will never smudge under dry fingertips, but exposure to damp conditions or liquid spills will disturb the waterleaf sizing of the cotton rag.
